I put together this fun book ledge in our homeschool room to make the room a little spooky and fun. I grabbed most of these from the library–a few we already had. I’m including amazon affiliate links for everything to make it easier to find, but I encourage you to utilize your public library. {As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.} You don’t have to buy all the things to make Halloween special for your tiny humans.
- Room on the Broom. I checked out the board book version from our library for Alice, but we have the paperback version from one of Eli’s old teachers.
- Goodnight Goon. This book is a cute parody of the Goodnight Moon classic, but, if you have a preschooler who gets a little fearful at night about monsters under the bed, I would skip this one. I don’t think I’m going to read it to Alice, just the bigger two.
- Pug & Pig Treat-or-Treat. Fun story and pictures. Easy for a younger reader to read along.
- The Nightmare Before Christmas. This movie is one of my favorites and my children have come around to it the last couple years so we definitely needed the book version. I might leave this one open on a book stand to show off the illustrations.
- I Love My Fangs! This book is so cute I added Kelly Leigh Miller’s other books to our library queue.
- Gustavo, The Shy Ghost. Great story–Alice and I love the color in this one!
- Sir Simon: Super Scarer. So adorable. Another not at all spooky book for younger ones. I also grabbed a graphic novel with the same character for Eli–Simon and Chester: Super Detectives!
- Little Bat in Night School. I do not think bats in real life are cute, in fact I think I have PTSD from when a bat came down our chimney and we woke up to it in our bedroom in the middle of the night when we first moved into this house. But the book is still cute-ish.
- Poultrygeist. We love all the Pete Oswald books we’ve read, so I knew this would be good. A cute book about a chicken crossing the road to get to the other side. Get it?
- The Halloween Queen. A fun book about a lady who super loves Halloween.
- Berenstain Bears Trick or Treat. I have a soft spot for this series and remember buying them at school book fairs, which were, like the best day of the year in elementary school.
What are your favorite Halloween books? Do your kids like spooky and scary or fun?
